Profile of the fellow

Alexandros Kaminas is a PhD fellow in the EVOLVE program at the University of Groningen, working on The evolutionary consequences of isolation. His academic training is in ecology and evolutionary biology, with an emphasis on quantitative and computational methods. He holds an MSc in Applied Ecological and Evolutionary Sciences from the University of Montpellier and a BSc in Marine Science from the University of Aegean, graduating with top-ranking results in both programs. He is affiliated with the Theoretical & Evolutionary Community Ecology and Evolutionary Systems Biology groups at the University of Groningen.

His research uses mathematical and computational modeling to identify patterns and processes in ecological communities shaped by anthropogenic and environmental drivers. This work relies primarily on theoretical and simulation-based approaches, complemented by empirical data analysis. Parallel to his doctoral research, Alexandros is involved in multiple collaborative projects and has contributed to several peer-reviewed publications. He also serves as a Network Coordinator within the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Youth Network, contributing to science-policy and sustainability initiatives that connect ecological research with broader societal challenges.
